Must we kill our main characters to have a good story in our conference or presentation? Let’s take a look.

Stories are incredibly useful to grab and maintain audience interest. Are all stories equal? Apparently not.

Benjamin Starr published “The Recipe for Writing Succes? Kill Your Characters” on visualnews.com about the plot lines used in the 13 novel who won the Man Booker Prize in 2011.

Most used plots? Death comes first. Followed by love and betrayal.

Those that mean that we must kill our characters to have a good story? Not necessarily. The graphic indicate that many plots are effective. Including the death.

We just have to choose the best one to illustrate our ideas.

There is a new challenger in the presentation software arena. Preseria Presenter claim to be able to play everything you throw at it. That’s a good news for events organizers.

The software is in beta. I should put my hand on it next week. For now, there is not much details available, and I have a lot of questions. Does it really play everything? Is it easy to use? Can you modify the files or just open them?

If you want to participate to the beta trial, you can click on the web site link.

No expressionBotox reduce the ability to raise the eyebrows which is  an important part of facial expression. Can this reduce your public speaking ability?

Angela DeFinis published an interesting post about the effect of Botox on your communication ability. I was surprised. I never thought about Botox this way before. In fact, I never think about Botox anyway, but that’s another story….

Research tells us that there is power in your eyebrows. When used naturally and in synch with your message, raising your eyebrows shows your curiosity, enthusiasm, and awe. Raising your eyebrows creates excitement, even a sense of joy—it shows you are interested and interesting. It’s one skill that will capture attention and radiate confidence.

Even if you are not planning to use Botox, read Angela’s post. You will find interesting points about the use of eyebrows in public speaking.
